Project 1 is mainly about the concept of environmental-community service that now popular among social service organizations, nonprofit organizations, after-school programs, and faith-based organizations. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Environmental-Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public.

The objectives of this project are:

  • To induce creativity in attempting to explore the current environmental circumstances

  •  To allow students to explore the opportunity to work with the community and for the community

  • To create awareness of the importance of creating and environmentally sustainable product/5. To be able to understand and explain the principles of sustainability from environmental perspective

For this project, we decided to choose Sekolah Rendah Agama Seksyen 3, which is located in Shah Alam to do mural painting and furniture installation. We were given an empty and dull wall to do our project. We did the mural painting which is designed based on Islamic theme. These activities took several weeks to finish. Thanks to our paint sponsor that provided us the paints based on our request. After finish the mural painting part, we recycled the unused wooden pallets and transformed it into a bench. The location of this wall is at the walk way to the canteen. So, it is suitable to put the benches to let them rest there after having their meals. Finally, in order to give some benefits to the users, we put the book shelf at the center of the wall. We got the books by advertised it on social media such as Facebook and Instagram. We received a lot of positive feedback on our advertisement about the book donations.

From this project, I can conclude that this project gave a lot of benefit to the users. It also taught us to make use the place in a good way. Overall, this project taught us to produce complete documentation of the entire project from proposal up to completion. We also know how to produce a multimedia presentation on the issue and process taken to resolve the issue. Next, we are able to demonstrate problem-solving skills. This project also made us recognize role and responsibility of an architect towards environment and society.  Lastly, it taught us to exemplify creativity in attempting to explore the current environmental circumstances.

PROJECT 2: NATURE AND US (GROUP & INDIVIDUAL)

Project 2 is basically about the various environmental crises that we faced nowadays. This project was intended to encourage the architecture students, us to do our part by producing a journal that reflects these concerns and to part of the change for a better world with our creative thoughts.

Before we proceed with our second project, we had our site visit to Kuala Tahan National Park which is located at Pahang. We were there for 3 days and 2 nights. There were a lot of activities organized such as Night Jungle Walk, Jungle Trekking, Rapid Shooting and Visit to Orang Asli Village. From this site visit, we gained a lot of knowledge about the environment and also gained new experienced.

The tasks for this project are divided into two parts:

1. Nature and Us (Group Task) – We had to choose one of the three topics that were given by the lecturer:

  • Nature As Community

  • Getting Back To Nature or Getting Nature Back?

  • Unified Nature

We decided to choose the “Nature As Community” for our topic because we thought this topic was suitable to our site visit which was Kuala Tahan National Park.

2. Reflective Essay (Individual Task) – This essay is mainly about our individual experienced during the site visit. The activities such as night jungle walk, jungle trekking and visiting Orang Asli village gave me a lot of new experienced and inspiration.
