BUILDING SCIENCE 1
Compilation of projects that I have done during this semester
In project 1, my group had to choose a building that are passively designed around the Klang Valley. We decided to choose Point 92 building or also known as Menara OBYU which is located in Damansara Perdana, Petaling Jaya. Being one of the new building in the area, Point 92 has a truly unique façade that make us interested to know more about it. Having achieved GBI certification along with MSC compliance, Point 92 is clearly setting the industry benchmark for a reputable corporate office address in the surrounding area. We went there for a site visit and we learnt a lot of new thing especially about the passive design strategy on a building. We also met the architects which were involved in this project.
After we gained enough information about the Point 92, we moved to our next task which was to produce two boards which were related to what we had discovered about the building especially in building passive design strategy.
The objectives of this project are:
-
To identify and define the principles of heat transfer in relation to building and people
-
To understand what is thermal comfort and discuss factors relating to thermal comfort
-
To analyze the effect of thermal comfort factors in a person and in a space
-
To be able to criticize design of the space in terms of thermal comfort by referring to MS1525 , UBBL, GBI and Green Mark standards.
From this project, I learnt how to:
-
Identify environmental conditions related to site conditions, climate, etc.
-
Explain the effects of the sun on the thermal performance of buildings
-
Explain the effect of insulation, thermal mass and air movement on thermal performance of buildings.
