Compilation of projects that I have done during this semester
PROJECT 1: MATERIALITY OF SPACE (ENCOUNTERING SPACE AND MATERIALITY)
For this project, we were asked to form a group of 4 person. We had to choose one building to be analysed and explored the building materials from that building. After a discussion, we decided to choose Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Departure Hall to do our research.
PROJECT 1 - Task A (Group Board & Mood Board)
In this task, we need to collect some information about KLIA Departure Hall and reason why we choosed it. We had to compile all the information into a group board. Then, we were asked to make a mood board. Mood boards is a board that include color, pattern, photographs, sketches and informative design elements to reflect the material used and ambience of the space of our choice.
PROJECT 1 - Task B (Individual Board)
In task B, we need to divide the building according to the space that we choosed to analys. I choosed the entrance for this building as my analysis space. In this board, I needed to analys some material that were used on this space.
SITE VISIT - MARBLE FACTORY, IPOH
On 27th September 2013, we went to Kintaly Marbles Sdn Bhd, a marble factory that is located in Ipoh. From this site visit, we learnt a lot of thing such as the prosses to make the marble tiles, types of marbles and information related to marbles.
SITE VISIT - PENANG
(PART 1)
On 28th September 2013, we went to Penang for a site visit. We went Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion & Baba-Nyonya House for the first day. At night, we were given a lecture about the roofing and glazing materials in Georgetown building. We got a lot of information about the situation at Georgetown and the problems related to roof materials and global warming nowadays.
SITE VISIT - PENANG
(PART 2)
On 29th September 2013, the second day for this Penang trip, we went to Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi building, walk around Penang town to see the historical building and learnt some about the materials.
PROJECT 2: INTEGRATION
In this final project, we needed to demonstrate our knowledge and understanding of
building materials application and properties through materials specification or proposal for
final studio project. This project allowed me to create an understanding of how the building materials selection can affect the aesthetic and structural values of my design in Architectural Design Studio 1 final project.
